On Friday 8th May 2020, the pupils from Key Stage 4 and 5 joined staff for a virtual street party to celebrate and remember 75 years since VE day was declared. All the pupils prepared something to share including: flags, bunting, cheese and potato scones, poems and songs. Libby made a play list for us so we enjoyed music from 1940’s and danced around our sitting rooms. Evie sang Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘When We Meet Again’ and Mrs Baker said a poem. We all took some time to remember why people felt both happy and sad about the end of the war.
“I can’t imagine what it must have felt like” said Libby, “I think even though we have hard times right now we are really lucky.”
Jude and Tracey made cheese and potato scones, “Yuk! they taste a bit like glue” said Jude. Rachel made an eggless, fatless cake using a rationing recipe. After one bite she concluded that it might be better for the birds.
Thank you to all of the pupils, parents/carers and staff who joined us and helped the young people get together and remember.
